ABOUT

~Why we created a direct site~

It was when designer Iwamoto visited an agency in Okinawa.

I heard from the owner, who is from a remote island, that there are still many restaurants in Japan that people want to go to but can't.

There are areas where it is difficult to get an eye exam (to measure lens power).

And then in 2020, the pandemic hit.

Although the brand's overseas sales grew at a tremendous pace after its launch in London, its designs were not well received by Japanese retailers, who tend to favor conservative styles.

After that, we started talking about why it's not selling in Japan even though we're getting a lot of inquiries on Instagram.

Up until now, it was common to buy glasses at a retail store. To do so, they had to be purchased by a buyer first. However, because of its radical design, it was starting to be introduced in stores with cutting-edge tastes, but it was still in a state of disuse.

However, it became clear that there were many people who "wanted to go but couldn't" or "wanted to buy but couldn't," so on the way back from Okinawa, Iwamoto said, "You can order it online."

Originally, purchasing glasses and sunglasses online was considered taboo due to the need for eye examinations and fitting.

However, what motivates us is the situation where people want something but cannot buy it.

Fortunately, thanks to Iwamoto's exposure in Japan and his track record overseas, the number of distributors for each brand has finally increased compared to the past, but there are still many regions that cannot be reached.

In addition, the designers and planning team who plan many of the overseas brands also plan to sell niche, lesser-known overseas brands in the future.

To that end, we will continue to cooperate with our distributors in various ways, operate our online shopping site, and strive to ensure that our sunglasses and eyeglasses reach people all over Japan.

Please make use of METRONOME-Tokyo Online.

METRONOME®︎

It was unveiled in London in 2017. After that, it quickly received requests for representation from buyers around the world, and quickly spread overseas.

The brand presents its collections every year in Paris, Milan, New York and London.

Since 2018, they have unofficially participated in the Paris Collection, making them the only Japanese brand to have participated in the Paris Collection with sunglasses.

The brand's seemingly eccentric yet calculated designs are unique to a designer who has lived his life in fashion, and are highly regarded for their design and storytelling, both as individual pieces and as total fashion.

Resonance by METRONOME®︎

In 2021, we will be releasing the second line of METRONOME®︎, incorporating the most commonly requested feedback from Japan, such as "It's good, but it's expensive," "I wish it was cheaper for this design," and "I wanted something a little easier to wear."

The theme is "resonance," as the brand name suggests. The design is a bit more "resonant" with the METRONOME feel, making it easier for anyone to resonate with, and it's reasonably priced.

Trad by Bisei Iwamoto

This is a unique, ultimate classic design that combines the designer's specialty of ``mode (avant-garde)'' with ``classic (traditional)'', and the designer's name appears in the brand name.

The brand was launched in 2021 by MIDO, and aims to eliminate all unnecessary elements (patterns and designs) that designers felt were unnecessary when it comes to eyeglass frames, with the idea that "just like arriving at a plain T-shirt, the ultimate goal is silhouette and functionality."

Although the glasses are primarily single-bridge (no nose pads) to make them easier to sell overseas, they have an inconspicuous anti-slip coating on the areas that come into contact with the frame, and can be quickly transformed into sunglasses with just a clip. All of these features are part of the "Traditional" product line.

TYBALT

An eyewear brand that started in Tokyo in 2022.

The theme is the silly yet lovable humanity that remains unchanged for hundreds of years, focusing on minor characters that appear in Shakespeare's works. The collection features a standard design that will become a great supporting character in your everyday life.

Highcollar®︎

The brand name comes from the ancient Japanese word "Haikara (high-class)." Launched in 2017, the brand quickly gained popularity in Korea through collaborations with celebrities and musicians. It quickly began to be sold in Japan, including at famous select shops like Royal Flash.

Director: Kim Sejin

After completing his military service, he went to London alone to study dance and design.
After that, he stayed in Japan and learned about the cultures of various countries, and at the same time, he felt that there was limitless potential in sunglasses and eyeglasses. After that, while working for an eyeglasses distribution company, he founded his own brand, "HIGHCOLLAR".
In 2017, he founded the PR company "LOCATE" in Korea and serves as its representative.
Every year, he personally participates in each apparel collection, incorporating his knowledge into HIGHCOLLAR and meticulously crafting the details of his creations.

SPRUNG

"SPRUNG" is a completely made-to-order, handmade house brand designed and planned by Sun Optical's Takeuchi Yato, who has traveled around the world as a planning participant alongside METRONOME designer Iwamoto.

Although it is not widely available in Japan, we have now started stocking it at METRONOME-Tokyo. We will continue to add other products as they become available.
(It is not a collection brand, so the products change from time to time.)
