How to obtain an eyeglass prescription (lens data) for prescription lenses

Although this article explains how to obtain an eyewear prescription, our online lens replacement service can be used without one. If you send us your current glasses, we will read the prescription for you. There is no need to visit an ophthalmologist or optician.

This page describes how to obtain the necessary lens information, also known as an "eyeglass prescription," for creating prescription lenses.

You can also have your eyes examined when purchasing frames at an optician's.

It is also possible to "obtain only a prescription" at an ophthalmologist or optician, then purchase frames from a different store, or order only lenses.

*Please note that the services offered may vary depending on the individual optician, so please consult with the store each time you use an optician.

On our site, it is possible to create prescription (and colored) lenses using an "eyeglass prescription obtained from an ophthalmologist or optician" and mount them into frames.

Prescription eyeglass lenses for vision correction require a special prescription for their creation.

Below are the general steps for obtaining an eyeglass lens prescription:

1) Visit an ophthalmologist:

To obtain an eyeglass prescription, you must first visit an ophthalmologist.

The ophthalmologist will conduct an eye exam to assess your current vision and necessary corrections.

*Alternatively, if you first consult with an optician and determine that a more detailed examination is required, you can then visit an ophthalmologist.

2) Eye exam:

At the ophthalmologist's office, your vision will be measured through an eye exam.

Common eye exams include using an eye chart to measure distance and near vision.

Additionally, the ophthalmologist may assess pupil size and eye health to determine the appropriate lens type and prescription.

*While it is possible to create lens data solely through an eye exam at an optician without visiting an ophthalmologist, we recommend considering an ophthalmologist visit for a thorough understanding of your eye condition and accurate lens creation.

3) Prescription creation:

Based on the results of the eye exam, the ophthalmologist will create an appropriate lens prescription.

The prescription will include the type of lens to be used (single vision, bifocal, progressive, etc.), the power (for nearsightedness or farsightedness, and astigmatism), and any additional special requirements (e.g., super water-repellent coating, UV cut).

4) Lens order:

With the prescription, visit an optician or an online eyewear retailer to order the lenses.

Based on the prescription, specialists can create the necessary lenses and mount them into your frames.

5) Lens mounting and adjustment:

Once the lenses are created, they will be mounted into the frames.

After completion, you can pick them up at the optician, or if ordered online, they will be delivered to your home.

*In the case of our website, after your frames arrive, we will complete the lenses and deliver them to you within about 1 to 10 days.

The above explains the general process for obtaining an "eyeglass prescription" for eyewear lenses.

However, procedures and requirements may vary depending on the region and medical system, so please consider consulting with your local area or healthcare provider for more specific instructions.

Most frames sold on our site allow for lens replacement.
