How to obtain an eyeglass prescription (lens data) for prescription lenses
Hello
I'm OKD, a staff member at
METRONOME Tokyo Online, an online store

[Notice] No prescription required for our lens replacement service
While this article explains how to obtain an eyewear prescription, our online lens replacement service can be used without one. If you send us your current glasses, we will read the prescription for you. There is no need to visit an ophthalmologist or optician.

This page describes how to obtain the
lens information, also known as an "eyewear prescription,"
required for creating prescription lenses.
You can have your eyes tested when you purchase frames
at an optician, or you can
obtain only a "prescription" at an ophthalmologist or optician
and then purchase frames at a different store,
or order only the lenses.
*Please note that the services offered may vary by optician,
so please consult with the store each time you visit.
Our site allows you to create prescription (colored) lenses
using an eyewear prescription obtained at an ophthalmologist or optician
and have them fitted into frames.
Prescription lenses for vision correction require a special prescription
to be made.
Below are the general steps for obtaining an eyewear lens prescription.
1) Eye examination at an ophthalmologist:
To obtain an eyewear prescription, you must first visit an ophthalmologist.
The ophthalmologist will conduct a vision test and
evaluate your current vision and the necessary correction.
*Alternatively,
you can consult an optician first, and if they determine that a more detailed examination is necessary,
then proceed to visit an ophthalmologist.
2) Vision test:
At the ophthalmologist, your vision will be measured through a vision test.
Common vision tests involve using an eye chart to measure both distance and near vision.
Additionally,
the ophthalmologist may evaluate pupil size and overall eye health
to determine the appropriate lens type and
prescription strength.
*While it is possible to create lens data solely based on an eye exam at an optician without visiting an ophthalmologist,
we recommend considering an eye examination with an ophthalmologist to understand your eye condition and ensure accurate lens creation.
3) Prescription creation:
The ophthalmologist will create an appropriate lens prescription based on the results of the vision test.
The prescription will include the type of lens to be used
(single vision, bifocal, progressive, etc.),
the prescription strength (for myopia or hyperopia, and astigmatism),
and any additional special requirements (such as super hydrophobic coating or UV protection).
4) Lens order:
With the prescription,
visit an optician or an online eyewear retailer to order lenses.
Based on the prescription,
a specialist can create the necessary lenses and fit them into the frames.
5) Lens fitting and adjustment:
Once the lenses are created,
they will be fitted into the frames.
After completion, you can pick them up at the optician, or
if ordered online, they will be delivered to your home.
*In the case of our site,
lenses will be completed and delivered to you approximately 1 to 1.5 weeks after the frames arrive.
The above is the general process for obtaining an
"eyewear prescription" for spectacle lenses.
However,
procedures and requirements may vary depending on the region and medical system,
so for more specific steps,
please consider consulting with your local area or healthcare provider.
Most frames sold on our site
allow for lens replacement.
*Some exceptions apply.
