TYBALT Eyewear — Choosing Your Frame and Lens Colour
Most people choose glasses by the shape and colour of the frame.
TYBALT adds a third axis: the colour of the lens.
Six frames are in the current line. On paper there are 72 frame-and-lens combinations; 39 of them are in stock today. The same frame reads completely differently once the lens changes.
Every model is named after a Shakespeare character
TYBALT itself is a character in Romeo and Juliet. So is every model name.

The brand began with an interest in Shakespeare's supporting characters — the vivid ones at the edge of the story.
Eyewear, we think, should work the same way: the wearer is the lead, and the frame is the best supporting role, drawing out their character rather than competing with it. That is why the brand carries the name of Tybalt.

Choosing by shape
If you are unsure — mercutio (Wellington)
The standard of the line, built on the original gaius. A classic Wellington, refined by keeping the lens slightly small.
The endpieces are given a little extra room so the frame sits easily on most faces, and the built-up nose bridge keeps the front clean. At 30g it is light enough to wear every day.
If you want something with more character — iago (Round)
A round frame, but the proportions have been adjusted carefully enough that it never looks like it is wearing you. At 28g it is the lightest of the six.
It also has the widest colour range — 15 combinations, including two-tone acetates. The one to choose if you dress around your glasses.
For work as well — malcolm (Crown panto)
The largest lens in the 23-24 collection, in a crown panto that reads as classic and modern at once.
Black and demi suit business and formal wear; the clear colours push it straight into casual. Of the six, this is the frame whose character changes most with colour.
For any season — ophelia (Crown panto)
The most versatile of the six, designed around comfort and everyday use. A clean crown panto that works in any season.
The colours, though, are anything but neutral — 15 combinations including purple and two-tone. A safe shape you can be adventurous with.
Something with more weight — caliban (Square)
A square with a slight upsweep at the outer corners, an homage to American vintage sunglasses.
The blunt, slightly severe character has been brought forward with TYBALT's sizing and colour. At 31mm the lens is the shallowest of the six, giving a silhouette that runs horizontally.
The one we fought over — Cassio (Wellington)
Mazzucchelli acetate, with β-titanium nose pads.
Wellingtons tend to end up looking heavy. Our director and the planning team kept reworking the line until the end, and the result is a Wellington that does not look heavy. At ¥17,380 it is also the easiest of the six to start with.
Choosing by colour
Every model offers frame-colour and lens-colour combinations. Three ways to think about it.
1. Black with clear (blue-light-cut)
For indoors and for work. It does not read as sunglasses, so you can keep it on in a meeting. Every model offers it — and it is also the first combination to sell out. Currently available on caliban, ophelia and malcolm.
2. Demi or dark yellow with green or grey
Quiet colours together. Nothing announces itself, which makes it a good first coloured lens.
3. Clear, pink or two-tone with yellow or purple
Entirely an accent. iago and ophelia carry the most of these — for people who choose glasses to go with what they are wearing.
You can change it later
Every TYBALT frame takes replacement lenses.
Buy it with blue-light-cut lenses and add a prescription later. Put sunglass lenses in for the summer and take them out in autumn.

And if it breaks, we repair it
Snapped frames, bent fronts, loose screws, worn plating. Our craftsmen repair them at our own workshop in Sabae, Fukui. Prices are published item by item, and they never change with the brand of the frame.
