[Spring/Summer 2022] Introducing and comparing glasses/sunglasses with rope temples I METRONOME-Tokyo Online

Hello, I'm OKD from METRONOME-Tokyo Online, the official Japanese online store for METRONOME DESIGN INC., which sells METRONOME®, a handmade eyewear brand founded in London.
Well, this time we will introduce the cable temple (also known as rope hand wrap or wrap temple), which is a very popular item in our shop and is well known for its classic shape.
I will show some photos later and compare them, but the size actually varies depending on the frame, so be sure to check that out as well.
First of all, what kind of eyeglass frames are "maki-tsuru" or "nawate"? They have various names, but they basically refer to the same thing. Nawate-maki are characterized by the rounded tips of the temples (the parts on the sides of the glasses that rest on the ears), which allow them to rest securely on the ears.
It's a little blurry, but... (lol) it's exactly as shown in the photo. The fit here will vary depending on the frame. For example, whether or not there are nose pads, the length of the temples, the stiffness of the temples, etc. The frames I'll introduce below all have their own characteristics, and if you get the size wrong, they may end up being "looser than you expected," so be careful when choosing frames.
Please also refer to the "size guide" in the photo.
However, the good thing about the vine is that it is easy to adjust for small discrepancies. You can make adjustments by making the vine more rounded or loosening it.
Additionally, for products with nose pads, it is possible to adjust the nose pads. (However, we generally recommend that you ask an eyeglass store to perform the adjustment.)
Currently, our shop offers frames with rope-wrapped temples from METRONOME and Trad.
First up is SInce Yesterday from METRONOME, a large rope-wrapped frame designed for the overseas market. This frame has the longest temples (the horizontal part).
Next up is Summer Rain↓, which has been well received overseas, and is smaller than Since Yesterday.
And from the Trad series, three frames, Lily, Lotus, and Gentian, are available with rope hand wrapping! (This time, Lily is pictured as a representative.)
First, we lined up the three frames. First, let's compare the numerical size. The difference is particularly noticeable in the temples (width). (This is part ③ of "How to read the size" that we introduced earlier.)
<Size in mm>
Since Yesterday [METRONOME]
1: Lens width 49
2: Bridge width 26
3: Temple length 191 (143)
4: Lens height 46
Lily [Traditional 2021]
1: Lens width 46
2: Bridge width 24
3: Temple length 162
4: Lens height 41
Summer Rain [METRONOME 2021]
1: Lens width 46
2: Bridge width 23
3: Temple length 169
4: Lens height 40
Looking at it this way, it seems like the ranking is SInce Yesterday > Lily > Summer Rain. In fact, one of our staff who normally wears Lily tried them on, and the order was SInce Yesterday > Lily > Summer Rain.
In particular, the Since Yesterday glasses have long temples (the parts that rest on the ears) , so bending the temples made them feel more stable. (The staff felt that wearing the whole set was no problem, and that Lily glasses were actually a more comfortable fit.)
By the way, since yesterday, it is possible to shorten the temples with additional processing, so if you are interested, please feel free to contact us. If you are considering purchasing, please check the size first.
Now let's compare the photos.

Even when looking at it from a perspective perspective (something further away looks smaller), you can see that Since Yesterday stands out from the rest. So, if your regular glasses/sunglasses have temples of about 140cm, Since Yesterday might feel a little large. (You can adjust it by bending the temples.)

On the other hand, if you think Lily or Summer Rain might be too small, Since Yesterday might be a better fit.
Before purchasing, we recommend checking the fit with a pair of glasses that are similar in size, or measuring the width of your face with a ruler.
