Recently, we've seen a rapid increase in inquiries about "repair and maintenance" both at our online store and physical shops.
"I love the design, so I want to repair it and keep using it." "I want to replace the lenses and give them a new life as sunglasses."
Every time we hear such requests, we are very happy. Because it's proof that our customers are attached to the eyewear we've made and cherish it as a daily companion.
Today, we'd like to introduce "frame polishing," which is one of the most common repair requests.
■ Why do frames turn white?
If you've been using acetate (plastic) eyeglasses for a long time, have you ever noticed the parts that rest on your ears or nose pads turning white and powdery, or the overall luster fading?
This is more akin to the aging of leather products than "deterioration." The main cause is the accumulation of sweat, sebum, and hair products, which, over time, causes the material's components to gradually leach out and dry.

■ Shave, polish, and restore the shine
The "acetate" material used in METRONOME frames is a plant-derived resin made from cotton and other raw materials. The wonderful thing about this material is that it "shines when polished."
Our craftsmen carefully polish each frame, removing the whitened surface areas and fine scratches using specialized abrasive compounds and high-speed rotating cloth called "buffs."

What do you think? The new-like, wet-look shine has returned. By shaving and smoothing the surface by just a few microns, a new inner layer emerges, beginning to radiate beautiful luster again.
■ Use good things for a long time
This is not possible with inexpensive plastic materials (such as injection molding) because the paint would peel off. This "restoration" is only possible with METRONOME frames, which use high-quality, dense acetate material with sufficient thickness.
Instead of discarding them when they get scratched, fix them and use them again. I believe such a sustainable way of interacting with things is also one way to enjoy eyewear.
