First of all, what is "SILMO Paris 2021"?
Designers of fashionable glasses and sunglasses from all over the world gather to unveil a wide range of new products at this one of Europe's largest eyeglass (sunglasses) and optical equipment trade fairs and exhibitions.
Past visitor numbers [2019]
Number of visitors: 35,888
Number of exhibitors: 970
*According to research by the Japan External Trade Organization
It is one of the largest in the world!
Could the glasses and sunglasses sold here later become popular in Japan?
It's the same as "Paris Fashion Week" in the apparel industry.
There were many products that were not only stylish but also functional and had lenses that were not available in Japan.
SILMO Paris 2021, Europe's largest eyewear and optical equipment trade fair and exhibition
And of course, the METRONOME camp also joined in the fun!
A new technique that has been used for several years now is to submerge sunglasses in water.
The reaction from visitors was good
It was definitely a great photo spot lol
thank you!
and
Of course, this is the one that everyone unanimously said was "It's heavy!!"
"Blasphemy"
The reaction was just as strong as the aquarium.
I felt that even though we are from different countries, we all think the same way haha
Of course, the new releases "Resonance" and "Trad" are no less impressive.
Resonance Wiregrass
Many people overseas are seeing it for the first time.
It was shared with many people and touched by them!
Traditional Lily
Made in Japan and accepted worldwide.
The frames, which are finished by artisans, have received rave reviews from buyers from all over the world.
And now for the first time
It was released alongside a brand other than our own called "MonkeyFilp."
"MonkeyFlip"
Due to COVID-19, there are few stores opening from Japan
It was a great honor to be able to exhibit at both events.
So let's go in order!
First, "Is it easy to leave Japan?"
The conclusion was easy to reach! (As long as I had taken the vaccine lol)
But it's really difficult to come back.
I'll explain that later on!!
Ten-odd hours of shaking on the plane
It was my first time riding for such a long time, and my back was aching.
When we arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in France, it felt like we were finally there! The weather was perfect.
There's no time to rest.
I checked into the hotel, left my luggage and headed to the venue.
There was some trouble when I entered the country, so it was hectic from here on out lol
My mission was to buy the supplies needed during the event, so I took an Uber to a nearby shopping center to do some shopping.
First, IKEA
I was overwhelmed by the difference in scale from Japan.
It's too big.
Just walking around the store makes me tired lol
Next door to McDonald's
McDonald's in France is green!?
It was so different from the usual shops I've seen that I snapped a picture.
I was hungry, so I wanted to try a burger that's only available in France, but I didn't have enough time so I gave up lol
I should have just eaten it quickly.
And the nearby outlet mall
It's an outlet store but it's "HARIBO" lol
The world-famous apparel brand "ZAPA"?!
It was great to see a view that I can't see in Japan. (Of course, I couldn't go inside. I didn't have time lol)
So, I returned to the venue.
By the evening we had finished setting up.
Return to the hotel
To a nearby steakhouse
Meat and beer.
There was no mistake and it was great.
Now, the exhibition begins!!!
Not only buyers from all over the world, but also Instagrammers, fashionistas, etc.
A variety of people came one after another.
I was in a panic for a moment lol
It was all a first time for me,
I was able to talk to many people and learn a lot about the different ways of thinking about the same glasses and sunglasses.
Day 2 begins!
The first day of the exhibition was just a preview,
I got the impression that they were touring the entire venue.
So around the aquarium, wire grass, etc.
There were a lot of people gathered in a place that was easy to see,
The atmosphere changed from the second day onwards.
It feels like I'm picking them up one by one and examining them carefully lol
Plus that
People looking at it as they pass by
At peak times, it's a hectic time.
Among them,
"Made in Japan" "Traditional" is very popular
I felt that the high quality of Japanese products is truly appreciated.
The second day ended in a flash
We returned to the hotel and went to a reliable steakhouse.
(We went to a steakhouse on the first day too. Three days in a row lol)
We have passed the halfway point and are entering the third day.
On this day, people who came on the first day returned.
Many customers who had previously placed orders came back to purchase new items and repeat orders.
The reason it was different from before was because it was released together with "MonkeyFlip"
Many people stopped to look at it because it was so unusual.
As expected, there was a high affinity with "METRONOME."
The design, which we don't have, matches well with the
The level of attention was so high that it didn't feel like it was the store's first time opening.
Last day!
The last day is a weekday,
There are not many customers.
I guess that's a characteristic of foreigners.
By mid-afternoon, I was drinking beer and starting to clean up.
So fast! LOL
I know I was bored so I understand how you feel.
So, let's take a look around the venue.
There are many flashy and stylish booths,
Personally, this is the most impressive thing for me.
There are so many guitars hanging there, it's like I'm wondering how many there are lol
It feels like a music store?!
Plus, the music was blaring and the staff were really friendly.
The appeal of the product is also
I learned the importance of getting people interested in your booth among the many others!
Summary of "SILMO Paris 2021"
I started working in the eyewear industry and thought I was starting to understand it little by little.
I was surprised to see how many brands, designs and styles there are in the world.
The category of glasses and sunglasses may be narrow, but
It's so profound and so different.
When it comes to style and fashion, there will never be an answer.
And as a Japanese person,
I also felt the strength and appeal of the words "made in Japan."
Nowadays in Japan, there are glasses and sunglasses that can be purchased at reasonable prices, which is one of the advantages.
High quality, sophisticated design, and well-thought-out functionality
I realized that even if something is expensive, it still has value and is highly valued around the world!
SILMO, one of the world's largest
Locals who don't speak French
A venue filled with only fashionable people
It was difficult in many ways, but it was fun. I want to go again!
Thank you "SILMO"
Finally, we finished off by sightseeing!
My first time in France, there are so many places I want to go
Of course, there are the usual "Arc de Triomphe" and "Eiffel Tower"
I walked nonstop for two days lol
I guess it's only in France that just walking around is so much fun.
The city is fashionable, and there are lots of beautiful women and handsome men.
This is the one that left the most impression on me!
Katakana is considered fashionable in France lol
A sign that you will never see in Japan
It's a trendy cafe with a stylish interior and you can order from your smartphone.
It was a very popular restaurant with many young people.
A lot happened on the way back to Japan. As I wrote earlier, the situation these days when traveling overseas is such that coming back is more difficult than leaving...
First of all, when boarding the flight back to Japan from France, I needed to get a "negative PCR test certificate," and I was wondering where I could get one in the first place (lol).
It seems that simple PCR tests can be taken in tents located all over Paris (the ones in charge were guys who looked like university students).
We went to a lab we found on a list of recommendations from the Japanese Embassy that we had researched in advance, and got a checkup and certificate.
So, I left France safely, transited through Turkey, and returned to Japan! (The feeling of relief when I landed was incredible!)
After returning to Japan, the process of returning home was quite long... First, you have to present a PCR test certificate, then take a test upon arrival, and wait for the results. If the result is negative, you can enter the country without any problems. (It was late at night, so the wait was quite painful...)
Next came the quarantine period, as you may already know (at this point, the mandatory hotel quarantine had been lifted). I had to wait at home for 10 to 14 days. It was pretty boring (lol).
A trip to France where we ate, drank and shopped a lot
Sorry for the many photos!
Thank you for watching until the end!
